There was a distant relative who apparently fled to latin america who went missing in action towards the end of the war (he was a regular kommandant or captain of some sort, who defected in last months with others, as everyone by then realized the war was lost). I used to think it was a baseless rumor but on exploring different websites, which list how many people with a certain surname live in specific countries, there are 300 people with his name there.
It's also important to note that not everyone who was conscripted into the German armed forces was a Nazi/ideological.
Most people succumb to mass formation (as evident in the COVID vaccine social distancing and mass vaccine uptake with vaccines that were only given preliminary approval). Very few would have been conscripted into the German armed forces and then draft dodged or defected during the 3rd Reich unless you were willing to be tracked by the chain dogs and either put in a labor camp, imprisoned or shot.
