Thailand wrt to its neighbors has a robust domestic mfg industry and conglomerates like CP Group are world leaders in agrifood industry. So food is cheap in Thailand and generally of a decent quality. But the Thai government grants conglomerates monopoly on domestic beer production which is why the beer is not great.

These cost of living sites are so stupidly inaccurate as to be entirely worthless. Cheap restaurant in my Manila neighborhood with made-to-order food cost between 50-130 pesos per entree, not 250. 169 pesos for a cappucino, only at Starfucks. At the local coffeeshops you pay about 100. Coke in glass bottle is 20 pesos, not 52. 2200 pesos for a monthly phone plan in Manila, get the fuck out of here. Mine cost 366 pesos including SIM. TH phone plan cost 199 baht, not 471. Manila doesn't even have a city center, so how can rent cost twice as much in the city center? I swear, they just pull random numbers out of their ass.
