I’m guessing you’re half Russian since you have a connection to the country?
0 connection, just have a passion for language learning and cultures (my goal is to one day learn all 6 UN languages, ive gotten Spanish & Russian down so far).

It's very different than anything I've ever experienced before. I lived in Thailand and the US and it's honestly shocking that I can say the US and Thailand have more in common than the US and Russia despite both being 'European' in origin.

You may have heard the stereotype that Russian's don't smile. It's true in the sense that interactions between strangers are cold and formal (compared to the US where it's casual/polite/friendly), the bar for small talk and interacting with strangers is also a lot higher than in the US. That being said it seems relationships go deeper here. In the US you can have 50 acquaintances and not really be close to anyone. In Russia you will have 2-3 people that would help you hide a body and are 100% ride or die.

Dating also works differently, I personally think it's harder. Keep in mind I'm 18 and my acceptable age range is 16-22. Russian women get serious much quicker (asking about your plans for the future), they also vet you more thoroughly than American women do (even the ones in high school asked me where I go to university, what I plan to do for work, etc). That's not to say ONS and hookups don't exist --they do, and Moscow is a degenerate modern city like every other-- but in terms of LTR and who they spread their legs for the standards are much higher than in their western counterparts. Russia in this sense is in many ways 'harder' than the West --couple that with the language barrier.

All in all, Russia is a very niche country. They don't even have many tourists let alone people that want to live there. It's not for everyone and you either hate it or love it --no real in between.
