Thinking about Korea for my next chapter but can’t decide between Busan or Seoul.

On the one hand it’s a little more chill pace in Busan which could be nice but that would also mean less people and in turn less girls. Maybe English would be less there too?

I know renting is a bit cheaper there but not by a huge amount. Also weather would be better.

I think I’m leaning towards Seoul. I know @predeterminism was obsessed about Busan for a while but decide not to go? Also @kamster was talking a lot about it.

Maybe we need an in field report still. Seoul has 25 million people in the metro area compared to 4 million in metro Busan, that might be the deciding factor in favor of Seoul.

busan to chill as a retreat

seoul to slay and conquer

I don't know much about Busan, but saying it has fewer girls is missing context. Yes there's fewer girls but a lot less competition too, all chads and foreigners live in Seoul. South Korea is Seoul centric, everything happens there, so Busan might be a lot more chill and easier.
Busan is big enough where dating might be good.

I lived in both Seoul and Busan for a while so maybe I can answer this.
IMO I like the vibe in Busan alot better, kinda has that seaside city thing going on and is alot more chill than Seoul. Though definitely less of a foreign vibe.
Major nightlife neighorhoods in Busan are:
서면 Seomyeon: Very early 20's mainly, I'll expand more on this in a second.
광안리 Gwangalli Beach: Good place for dates, more so resturants and bars but there's some clubs here (not many).
남포 Nampo: Pretty sure it's only old boomers here.
경성대 Gyeongseong Uni: Apparently there's some clubs here, I've never been but there were alot of young people last time I was in the area.
해운대 Haeundae Beach: Some clubs, lots of tourists, though skews older and foreign so never went.
I'll talk about Seomyeon since it's the biggest one and the one I have the most experience with, it's a very very korean vibe, and mainly people in their early 20's. The unfortunate reality about nightlife in korea is that the more korean of a vibe a place has, the less they want do anything to do with foreigners, no matter how well you speak korean.
Especially the hunting bars where young koreans go to hit on girls usually don't accept westerners because the korean paypig guys think that having a western face inside will fuck up the vibe. I speak fluent korean, and went in with a group of korean guys and they still wouldn't let me in most of the time. Some of the clubs are like this too but it's a little better.
People are dressed pretty well here so you need to bring your A-game. I recommend after 11 pm to go with your bros and talk to groups of girls on the street and ask them to go drink, because that strangely seemed to work sometimes. Busan is racist as fuck to put it simply, though yeah the weather is better and rent is cheaper.

Seoul has been discussed quite a bit, so I leave it unless you're curious. More foreigners but also more foreign friendly, there are still racist places but significantly less, though IMO it just doesn't have the vibe Busan has.

Awesome report. I'm curious about what you mean by "tourists" and "foreigners" exactly. Would this include Japanese guys, or are you more talking about Western featured guys?

From what I can gather, Japanese and Korean guys are horny as fuck for each other's women

busan is significantly cheaper, half the price maybe or less even, but not that much easier

@practicaleagle
Solid report, what are your stats if you don’t mind me asking?
I think I’ll be a little bit concerned if they are more xenophobic in Busan, cause I don’t speak any Korean.
But I do like that seaside beach city vibe a lot more, so it’s enticing from that perspective.

How about cost of living outside of renting? @BiggChungus says it’s significantly cheaper which is obviously a plus.
How long did you live in Korea?

Foreigners usually means non east-asian passing foreigners, usually westerners. (White, black, whatever). East asian passing foreigners like japanese and chinese actually have it somewhat better, they can sometimes go into places that usually wouldn't accept foreigners because they tend to spend alot and "not fuck up the vibe by standing out". (Though japanese probably do better than chinese imo).
I remember one time I was trying to get into this club with my chinese friends, I spoke to the doorman entirely in korean and he basically told me "Well, yeah you speak korean, but you don't speak like a NATIVE korean so it's not good enough to get in, it's too hard to communicate with you when it's loud and dark inside." And then he turns around and lets my chinese friends inside who only know "annyeonghaseyo" in the thickest fucking chinese accent you heard jfl.

And yeah, specifically korean dudes have this fantasy about japanese girls being trad waifus (since korean genz girls don't fit that at all these days) so there's alot of guys that go over to look for a girlfriend. I specifically know one dude who did a working holiday over there to find a girlfriend because "korean girls don't know how to cook."
I've never seen japanese guys be super into korean girls right? Tell me if I'm wrong but they mainly seemed to be into their own japanese girls.

If you are going there, visiting both will be easy and cheap, you can test both

Interesting, yeah, it's probably stronger in the Korean --> Japanese direction. Japanese dudes do fetishize Korean girls but it's more like "they have perfect faces" and "they know how to have fun, Japanese girls are too stuck up". Both of which are pretty misguided. They say the same thing about Taiwanese girls.

asian on asian racism is so hilarious, the more you learn about it the funnier it is, especially when the average westerner could never tell the difference between any of them

korean girls are kind of nice even if they wont sleep with you. taiwan girls are actually pretty bitchy.

From my experience both Taiwanese and Chinese girls are very "snappy". Superficially bitchy, like to one-up you, like to appear cool and dominant in social situations. Might have something to do with the saving face/面子 phenomenon in Chinese culture. Japanese girls are much more comfortable with being led around and being humbled.

Behind closed doors though they all seem mostly the same

So Japanese girls are the most docile on average, at least in East Asia?

my opinion is that they are genuinely more confrontational. they are kind of similar to vietnamese in that they are heavily mixed. I dont think it is possible to say that filipinos or thais are not more confrontational (when discounting for poverty making them deferential.) taiwanese are somewhere in between. I think the japanese have made an accurate observation

germans and italians are mostly the same but I dont think you could really say italians are not more confrontational, for example

Why is that you think?
Smaller population makes them more choosy actually?
dunno. probably because they're the tallest and whitest, and second richest. and also probably most popular on instagram. the fact that their men are slightly more deferential probably gasses them up

it wasnt always like that

@Rance: regarding 面子, do you feel like giving compliments to girls in China would be beneficial? Or would it appear to be too simp, like in Western countries?

Is that seen as too simp in the west? To me it seems fine as long as you are attractive enough compared to her, and dont just say you are beautiful.
