As I mentioned yesterday, here’s my honest take on Russia.
I went there for 12 days in September, 4 days in Saint Petersburg and 8 in Moscow.

Getting There

If you’re on a tight budget, just stay home. Russian girls and low budgets don’t mix.
But if you’re really determined to go, you can grab a cheap flight to Finland or one of the Baltic countries, then check which borders are still open. From there, you’ll probably have to take a bus and wait hours at the border for checks before finally getting in.

I didn’t have the patience and time for that, so I just flew from Milan to Istanbul and then from Istanbul to Saint Petersburg.
As for moving from Saint Petersburg to Moscow, there is a high-speed train which is great

Before going to Russia you need a visa but that's easy and you can check yourself how to do it and what are the requirements for your country

Money Stuff

Once you arrive, go to a local bank and get a card.
Put the cash you brought into that account and you’re good to go.

Accommodation

In terms of accommodations, Airbnb doesn't work in Russia. You can use Russian substitutes but again I didn't want any hassle with the registration and many of them don't want to deal with foreigners for short stays and register them so I instead chose to book a hotel. It's way faster and you'll avoid a lot of headaches.

Saint Petersburg — Huge Letdown

Now, the girls. Everyone knows I’ve always talked up Russia, I’ve been super bullish on it. So I went in with very high expectations.
And… I was massively disappointed.

Saint Petersburg is basically the liberal hipster capital of Russia. Hot girls? Forget about it.
They don’t even look Russian, at least not like the ones you see on Instagram or in model castings or when you see a hot russian girl traveling in your city. I can’t explain it, but they just look off. Maybe it’s the liberal vibe, maybe liberalism really does make girls ugly everywhere or maybe the northern Russian genes just suck.

I walked up and down Nevsky Prospekt so many times I lost count, and I couldn’t believe how bad it was.
After two days, I wanted to get the hell out of there, but I stayed just to avoid the hassle of changing my train and hotel bookings in russian.

Honestly, Saint Petersburg has way worse looking girls than Poland, Czech Republic, the Baltics, Hungary, Ukraine, Belarus, Slovakia… you name it. Don’t even bother visiting.
Think San Francisco or Berlin hipster bars....blue hair (or any variation of crazy hair color) women weren't uncommon, woke vibes, dressed like shit. I couldn’t wait to leave.

Moscow

After four days I took the train to Moscow.
There I met two Italian guys who live in the city and that I had contacted on IG before going to Russia, one’s a pianist with 400k followers on IG and over 2 million on TikTok, the other is a famous traveler married to a Russian influencer. If you Google, you can probably figure out who they are. We met for lunch and they showed me around a little.

Moscow, thankfully, was a totally different story for girls at least. Lots of beautiful and stunning girls which looked like how you imagine Russian girls to be.
I told the guys I had been in Saint Petersburg first and they just laughed, confirmed it sucks. I wish I knew that earlier.

We talked a lot about dating in Moscow as foreigners.
It’s very far from a pussy paradise unfortunately, it’s actually pretty hard to date hot girls there, even for expats who speak Russian decently like them.

How Dating Works There

Moscow dating runs on Instagram. Even though it’s technically banned, everyone still uses it.
Girls also have Telegram, but if you meet one, the first thing she’ll ask is for your Instagram.
So make sure your IG is on point. Saying “I don’t have Instagram” instantly puts you in the loser category.

Tinder, Bumble, and the usual dating apps are blocked because those companies exited the Russian market so Instagram is basically the dating app.

Money

Moscow is loaded with money. I’m a millionaire myself from trading and online business, but even that doesn’t really impress top tier girls there.
The city is full of luxury cars.... Mercedes, Porsche, Bentley, BMW, all high-end models. And in Patriki, where the hottest girls hang out, it’s Ferraris, Lambos (mostly Urus), Bugattis, McLarens.
If you want to stand out in Moscow, bring real money. Nobody cares about your fancy BMW or Audi there, believe it or not.

The Language Problem

Another thing that surprised me is that English levels were lower than I expected.
Moscow is a capital city, but most girls barely speak basic English.
Girls in Kiev, Warsaw, or Prague speak way better.
That’s a problem because if you can’t hold a natural conversation, it’s really hard to build any emotional connection.

Cost of Living

Moscow is expensive. If you want to stay central, like around Tverskaya, and you should be because all the good things are in the central area and you must have good logistics... a modern one-bedroom apartment cost €3,000 per month.
That’s London-level rent, more expensive than a lot of Western European capitals so be prepared for it. Restaurants also aren't cheap, don't expect Bangkok prices. Expect Western European prices.

Final thoughts

Moscow girls aren’t desperate, not even close. They prefer dating Russian men like all girls from every country prefer dating their own men. There is no shortage of high value Russian guys in Moscow and you can live a great life in Moscow, on par or even above what you can live in Western European capitals (to be fair I consider Western European capitals as total shitholes but that's my opinion)
As a foreigner dating high quality Russian girls it’s an uphill battle. You need a social circle, great Instagram, luck, solid Russian skills, and you must be ready to live there long term
I went to Russia with sky high expectations and that’s probably why I left disappointed.

For a long time I thought about getting a golden visa but I'm not sure it's worth it anymore especially considering that they recently increased taxes and they plan to increase them even more.

Good on you for travelling but I never met more superficial people than Russians. Not sure id marry a lifetime partner, many wish to go there to get a trophy wife
Pretty much all the beautiful Moscow girls couldn't care less about foreigners, that's the big problem....I wouldn't marry any girl as divorce rates are high anywhere
Many men that go to Russia end up with a trophy wife because they don't have a social circle and so they only meet the worst "golddiggers"...they skip the hard part and in this dating market you just can't do it

They have no reason to. They can just date their own

And I know Russians think just like Koreans they are superior. I have been at this VIP party in Europe invited by half Russian and the old lady didn't want to speak to me cause I was european. Her boyfriend escaped drafts to Europe lol

Yes, every girl in Russia has IG and the first thing they ask you is your Instagram. They want to see what kind of man you are, what kind of life you live, if you're a successful man or a loser, if you have a great social life or you're a total nobody.
Pretty much the entire dating market in Russia as a foreigner is about IG. You meet a girl in some bar, club, or at a park, through common friends, at an event ecc and you add each other. And then you start to build rapport and talk by commenting each other stories and showing interest by liking each other pics. That's dating in Russia in 2025 and it was confirmed to me by expats that live there

I wonder if thats the case even in Siberian cities? Not really interested in Russia anymore anyways these days but im curious. I do agree with OP that CE would be better even if its more difficult in other ways.

With China i still doubt the prevalence of instagram usage. Some FOBs I met in my area don't use it and mostly stick to rednote and wechat, small sample size I know but makes me think many still dont.

this forum is called geomaxx not geomin. Moscow, for most people, is probably harder to date than one's hometown due to language barrier unless you want to buy a russian golddigger

With a good social circle and speaking the local language, Moscow can be good. If I had to invest time in learning either russian, chinese, japanese, thai or tatalog I'd choose russian. At least in Moscow the women are hot, almost Kiev level hot....not like some Asian monkeys
Saint Petersburg, on the other hand, sucks really bad with probably the ugliest girls in the whole Russia

Still, I had extremely high expectations and that's probably I returned disappointed

it's not really area dependent. it's more iq and education dependent. if they can figure out how to work a vpn then chances are they'll be on ig
With China i still doubt the prevalence of instagram usage. Some FOBs I met in my area don't use it and mostly stick to rednote and wechat, small sample size I know but makes me think many still dont.
what kind of fobs? i met a fob who didnt graduate high school from a rural area in china who doesn't use it but girls i meet on language apps in tier 1 cities use it

Awesome post @Stellar_Travels! Reading your report gave me the good ole RooshVForum vibes. If there was a way to rep you, I would have done so.

Good intel on what it takes to actually date the attractive Russian girls.
Thanks, IG game is key there....gotta have to display a good life. And the russian language unfortunately is important too...in Kiev and Warsaw for example you don't need to learn the local language because many girls speak english too, in Moscow much less and that kinda shocked me

I met some expats and both of them are recently married to Russian girls, they both prefer them hands down compared to Italian girls or Western women but the problem is they live there, they met these women because they were in their same "circles of activities" so it happened naturally and then they gradually got to know each other. Both of them now speak fairly good Russian. They also had high status because both of them had over 100,000 IG followers

In Moscow it's about playing the "long game", gotta have patience and gotta invest a lot in the country and I don't know if I can do it. Going there a couple of weeks will achieve nothing and that's why I didn't even try to go much to bars and clubs. I visited only a club which is normal and then there are a couple spots throughout the city where there is live music and people are dancing there and the vibe is good but didn't really approach anybody tbh....I was there just exploring

why would anyone to date russians if they are like that?
even if you had enough money and status it sounds like a nightmare

i would rather p4p or rot at home than date those kind of girls
They aren't feminist so I'd pick them above Western women hands down
Also in Moscow (not Saint Petersburg) they're more beautiful than Western women

It requires effort in learning the language and a social circle but dating in the Western capitals is utter hell in that feminist cesspool

I still appreciate you sharing this. I feel even 5 or 10 or 20 million net worth woudnt change anything. The urus and Lambo guys there already know these girls from work or from college/high school. It's really hard to enter the circles it's a tight knit community

Mostly from Tier 2s but one of them moved to Guangzhou before I met her, unfortunately I'm pretty sure she has mental issues so I avoided dating her. All are from language exchange meetups hellotalk and approaching. Only one is from a smaller city and lower class background.

Also I personally classify anything other than the big 4 even Chengdu as a Tier 2 or lower probably cause I first got exposed to China in the 2010s before new tier1s really became a thing.

Sir, this is a forum for mostly broke, autistic subhumans jfl

What I can say is that however common it is, it’s way more rare for them to be statusmaxxed on it. Most Chinese girls I’ve added on IG have 2-digit follower counts because it’s basically just their close(r) irl circle and not a ton of random moots. And then obviously, Shanghai and Guangzhou are gonna have the largest userbase. Not like they’re gonna casually have 1k+ followers by default like the popular kids from your school

I imagine Russia must be more like the latter
