Geomax Current mood: too much to handle on Tinder (1 Viewer)

Date's over, no video sorry, but I'll get one next time

She's a 5, maybe 5.5. I mildly mog her. 165cm so not short or tall, quite slender, somewhat athletic, but she's a competitive video gamer. Thin face, big eyes, good dimensions, but just has kind of that "melted" look you know? That's a super mean way of putting it but the features sort of blend together without definition.

Date went pretty well, we went to get some Japanese food, I talked WAY too much about Japan (she said multiple times "your body is in China, but your heart is in Japan" or something). She taught me a phrase, 一会走走, which means like "let's go for a walk". She advised me to use it when I date other girls, instead of abruptly ending the date after dinner, tell them this. She was joking about the "other girls" part but of course it's not a joke to me!

We were walking around, I was like "huh your hands are big" or something and I used that as an opportunity to hold hands with her, we walked around and then went home, turns out she lives super close to me, not walkable but a couple train stops away.

Here's the weird thing: at the end of the date she was like "There is something that you didn't notice, I'm not going to tell you what it is. I wonder if this thing is important to foreign guys. I will be surprised if you don't notice it." I am quite sure the thing she's referring to is that she seems to have some kind of lazy eye. It's not really a lazy eye, I don't know what to call it, but when she looks at me one of her eyes is slightly pointed incorrectly. It's not a big deal, easy to miss. So I hope that's what she's referring to.
when do you attempt 1st date fuck/slay vs having multiple dates?

Thanks @Rance for the report!

Interesting last paragraph as many Chinese girls seem to have a mild form of esotropia.

What do you think about China so far in terms quality of life, service, girls?

when do you attempt 1st date fuck/slay vs having multiple dates?
Always always always try to align the conditions to make it easy to "appear" at your home. This was so easy for me in Tokyo, we'd go out to eat, then go to a bar or something, then walk and boom, we're at my door.

In China, I don't live too close to the big hub area, although there's a little bar and entertainment district near me home which I'll invite her out to for the second date. I'm not entirely comfortable with asking a girl to take a taxi to my house yet on the first date, not very sure how to pop the question, but I got the vibe that it didn't feel right at that time since she had to get up early for work.

Basically, you should always be attempting. No girl is going to get mad that you try to do it, which I think is a blue pill myth. As long as you're graceful when she rejects. I think a safe way to try to close a first date lay is something like "come check out my apartment... I have a cat/I have a wine collection/the view is insane... and I have air conditioning!" This way it's kind of obvious what you're trying to do, but easy to turn down.

Thanks @Rance for the report!

Yess one-eye esotropia, that's it.

QoL is the highest I've ever experienced, relative to how much I can spend, that is. Everyone is so nice to me too. I get a lot of attention but perhaps not as much as I expected. I've only had one "photoshoot moment", a shirtless sweaty guy and his cute girlfriend wearing hanfu took a selfie with me in a restaurant. Other than that mostly just quick stares on the street.

I can only eyeball (ha) the quality and quantity of girls since I've only been on one date. My feeling is that I will ascend more rapidly than I did in Tokyo. Too many messages to reply to on Tinder, which is a new experience for me, though I never really used such dating apps in Tokyo.

My reports will get more frequent and more detailed in the coming days! I think I have 4 girls who want to go out with me this weekend, including the girl I just went on a date with. So 1-2 will need to be cut out. Drama!

nice

闲逛 means to wander around without really having a clear goal, just strolling, when i used it to a chinese guy (闲逛一下) he said that was a pretty native level thing to say but that's a n=1 observation.

also when you want to say 'local' eg for food you can use 地道 which is also a native kind of way to say it i heard from multiple people

chinese lesson over

keep us updated

Chinese people, and women especially for some reason, don't like Japan and seem to be repulsed by Japanese men. They get crazy offended if someone calls them Japanese too as for them it's a bad insult. If you're feeling mischievous you can get some funny reactions and rants out of them on the subject.

当地 is a non-native way of saying it?
nah it's just that chinese people don't hear non-natives use 地道 often ime

edit: found some threads about it https://hinative.com/questions/16720194 https://www.italki.com/en/post/question-302444

地道 is probably more like 'authentic' now that i looked it up, i mostly use it for food like i said in my post. 这个美食很地道 this food is very authentic.

i stand corrected eitherway, even though i think the two overlap somewhat in context (if i see two signs with "local sichuan food" and "authentic sichuan food" somewhere in areas other than sichuan i wouldn't differentiate between the two in meaning)

I think it really depends, especially among young people it can vary wildly, and sometimes feels like a love-hate relationship

how many foreigners have you seen around?
Very very few, virtually zero. If you walk around the city on a weekend night when it's slammed, you'll see tens of thousands of people over the course of an hour. Maybe four or five of them will be "visibly non-Chinese foreigners". And maybe only one of those will be white. Most non-East Asian foreigners seem to be from Central Asia, and to a lesser extent Pakistan/Bangladesh. I haven't seen a black person yet

That’s cool; maybe Tier 2’s and lower are the way to go nowadays since the country is much more developed and you’ll get extra “JBX” effect in those places for an even greater SMV boost, or is that wrong since you’re not getting that much attention?

The quality of women at that point is bound to be lower. Everyone wants to be in cool cities like Shanghai.

The upper Tier 2’s/Tier 1.5’s/New Tier 1’s should provide a good balance and I think they may be better options than the old Tier 1’s nowadays in theory, but I’d have to explore a bunch of cities there first to determine if this is true; are you in Wuhan yet?

I mean yeah they're good. The ambiguity of not including "new tier 1" in "tier 1" is pretty annoying. Somewhere like Chongqing has a population of 32 million for god's sake.
are you in Wuhan yet?
I still have 2 weeks in the sewer

It would depend on your chinese level no? Tier 2 cities and lower (not the new tier 1) are gonna have very low levels of english. Unless you know chinese your dating pool is going to be incredibly small.

And the amount of foreigners is already very small everywhere, how much of a difference will it make to be in a city with 0.1% foreign population vs 0.001%?
You are already extremely exotic, and at that point its up to you to be attractive enough to pull the girls you want. There's 0 competition.

I can’t speak about all T1 cities, but the difference between SH and a T2 is like night and day in terms of JBW.

One of the only upsides of living in a T1 (Beijing, SH) is that it gives some minor prestige boost if you tell your family and ppl in your country, but that’s about it. In terms of cost of living, T2 cities seem to have the best quality to price ratio.

what's your chinese level?
and how do you date lots of girls there if theres no english speakers and dating apps are basically empty?

Doesnt JBW still work as long as you're decent looking and tall in Shanghai?

If by decent looking you mean 4.5 PSL, then no.

If HTN+ you will get attention, as you would get elsewhere.

Holy fuck is this so true, particularly relative to Tokyo. The girls here know WAY LESS ENGLISH. I will give my further date reports soon but I need to up my Chinese level fast, because there are are so many cute girls interested in me whom I think are going to fizzle because I just can't fucking communicate with them. At least in Tokyo there was more of a baseline of "we can communicate in basic English and use my rudimentary Japanese to supplement", no, in Hangzhou these girls know basically nothing.

The next generation of geomaxxers shall thank @Rance for his service as, unironically, he's teaching English to the very girls whom they will date.

Mind you, I had to use Microsoft Translator (Google being unavailable in China) to communicate with the receptionist in the hotel in SH. But I have no right to criticize as my Chinese is no better than their English.

Does WeChat have convenient translation bots like Line that can automatically translate between you and the girl?

Yeah, you hold the message and along with "copy", "quote", "forward", etc. you also have a "translate" button. Quite convenient

Of course, that only covers receiving messages. What do you do for sending messages? My strategy is to use ChatGPT (would prefer Gemini but hard to access in China), ask it to translate what I want to say from English to HSK2-level Chinese, or as close to HSK2 level as possible. Then I read its suggestions and copy+paste it back. I only use a message this way if I generally understand what it means. I never throw stuff into Google Translate or w/e because I'm unlikely to comprehend what I'm actually sending. This is important for three reasons:

1) comprehensible output helps learning Chinese
2) I'm far less likely to say something unintentionally awkward
3) The girl will judge my Chinese level more accurately, wouldn't want to catfish my language level

man. good advice. I never even thought to use chatgpt. I wonder what goes on in your head sometimes, you clearly have an eye for effectiveness

let me know how long it is before you run out of matches in tinder and tantan. I was in a t2 city and the stack literally ran out in 4 days or so, and then I was bored there for the rest of the month.

hope it works out for you better than me but I decided that chinese society is ultimately too plugged into douyin to make the juice worth the squeeze compared to other countries. that said, it might come down somewhat to what apps I used. there might be some chinese app store app that works better, but I couldnt find one that wasnt full on paypig, pay per message type apps which japanese and koreans tend to love as well, which are obviously close to wrothless. my chinese is pretty good, my interpretation is that chinese society is more combative than other asian countries and so most women have just completely unplugged from any sort of social interaction. of course I could be wrong, but my chinese friends themselves have said that this is the case.

I think my Tinder is broken in a good way because I've never even hit a daily swipe limit despite having swiped a few hundred times. And they're still mostly within 20-30km of me. It helps that my match rate is about 20%, so for every 5 girls I swipe right on about 1 swipes right on me, so I don't have to do all too much swiping. I will eventually hit that wall though and I'll let you know when.

Wow, you must be Chadlite

Wow, you must be Chadlite
chadlite gets that rate in the west, in China it would be a lot higher

if he is china maxxed it makes sense to get that, competition is quite low when it comes to expats
and he said he is close to htn

Tantan is hilarious. I was expecting scammers but I wasn't expecting the app itself to be the scammer. I got a special notification for a girl who "premium liked me", so I thought: yeah, this is just like Tinder. It's give me a sample of the feature that allows you to see who likes you! So I swipe right on her and am faced with a message that says I need to subscribe to a premium plan to like this user? What? How does that even make sense?

Bumble has been interesting. I used it for an hour and saw that around 35 people swiped right on me. However, I ran through all of my own swipes without getting any matches. My guess is that there's a lot of Bumble users if I wasn't able to connect with those 35 people, because I didn't swipe left all that much.

Wow, you must be Chadlite
Nope, I just know how to push the buttons with how I took my photos and built my profile. I guess in some sense I am a Chadlite in China if you look at that adjusted SMV score

Could also be the age and distance range, but hard to figure out without buying premium and seeing all the likes.

Excellent, clutched two dates for both Friday and Saturday! Two new girls, since the girl I went on the first date with is out of town. She even joked with me "I won't be around, so you can go on dates with other girls~" ... again, she has no idea
  • Friday: Girl is 29, a cosplayer. Remember how I befriended the owner of the craft beer bar? Well I'm glad I did, we're meeting there at 9 PM, he's wingmanning for me, and it's very close to my home. Good feelings here. Had to work a bit for this one and her English level is low so it's a mixed bag.

  • Saturday: Girl is 25, she reached out to me very eagerly, quickly asked for my WeChat, said she would love to go for a walk around the lake with me. So we're meeting at 5 PM in the main part of the city by the lake, having dinner, maybe go to a bar or something after. She's very pretty. A bit far from my house (like 25 minute taxi ride) so I don't think I will do a SDL. This date seems like it could be the start of relationship material.

I wonder what goes on in your head sometimes, you clearly have an eye for effectiveness
I have been thinking about this. In real life, I sometimes have to throttle my discussion of dating not because I'm particularly blackpilled or "manosphered", but because I'm so maniacally technical with it that it can come off as pretty off-putting. Sometimes I feel like some kind of mechanical monster with how nonchalantly I go through the motions, with a priority of efficiency

It came out a few times already. I've befriended one of my coworkers who's a chill dude. He was complaining about a girl he was seeing from a dating app and how she wasn't responding, and I said something like "it's not a good use of your time to worry about what she's thinking, and you can stave off those emotions a bit by talking with as many other girls as possible, ultimately, your attachment here will be your downfall, so you should try to get rid of your feelings for now" or something and he gave me that look. I guess he wanted to just hear "ohh she's so sweet I hope she replies soon"? Idk

Gotta use these forums to let out my inner thoughts and just be more normal in the real world

She even joked with me "I won't be around, so you can go on dates with other girls~" ... again, she has no idea
lol the art of marketing oneself on Tinder as high trust while being the most fervent geomaxxer of the forum

If you don’t mind, of course, it would be cool to see what the cosplayer looks like. I have some idea based on what I see on TikTok, but I don’t know if they look that good without filters.

any idea if she'll be notified if I take a screenshot of her tinder page? If she's not then I could do that

I think what Rance is trying to say (I may be wrong) is that being in a top social circle can only help rather than not help, which obviously is always the case no matter where you are but is especially the case in countries like Japan and Korea where collectivism is the core cultural element. I've tried what you mentioned in your post with Japanese women many times and the only one it worked on was very obviously mentally ill. I get ghosted as soon as I try to make the conversation more light hearted or ask them about themselves too soon. This style of socializing truly does not work on these people except maybe on those who are more marginalized.
You must not be doing something right. Your light hearted feigned interest in them. You're probably thinking more about yourself during the interaction and come off as horrible. Harmless but horrible, to say the least.

You are not and can never be a part of Japan, Korea, or China's collective. Even if you become fluent, marry into a local family, and even acquire citizenship you'll always be a novelty to some degree. They'll never bother holding you to the same expectations.

Especially if you're in one of these homogenous countries you should just act like how you are. And if you're trying to meet a potential wife or whatever you must be genuine. If you develop a relationship with someone where you've successfully hidden things or pretended to like stuff you really don't then the other person will resent you at some point.

Literacy is alright. But I just can't see wasting my time in this life for anyone.

Your light hearted feigned interest in them. You're probably thinking more about yourself during the interaction and come off as horrible. Harmless but horrible, to say the least.
You're absolutely right. I just recently came to the realization I've been doing this and I'm working on fixing it.

no, but if she uploads the same photos elsewhere, people can reverse-image-search them and find her

Just went through a whole day of Tinder swipes with NO matches. Something definitely changed between now and then!

Still no matches on Bumble, though about 45 people apparently swiped right on me.

Still only two matches on Tantan, two girls who are replying with those short terse messages like 是的. Yet over 70 people apparently swiped right me.

I'm back on HelloTalk and volume on there is as high as ever, with one lady in her late 30s telling me she's single and wants to meet me.

And a positive development, some girl saw one of my popular posts on xiaohongshu and reached out saying she's nearby in Nanjing, if I meet her on a weekend in a couple weeks she'll treat me to everything. Possibly sus but maybe I'll go for it.

I haven't been on Tinder for a while, but years ago they would artificially push new accounts higher in the algorithm, and then after a few days you would drop down to your real Elo. they're probably still doing that.

what you said tracks 100% so far. most of the women in tantan are real, the amount of scams are relatively low because a scammer would obviously engage with you. I think the women are just tuned out.

there is something about the chinese algo deprioritizes foreigners. but even after matching its hard to keep their attention. some people suggest its teh sex ratio, something like 1.3 guys for every single woman. who knows

that and if there's not many users, all the active girls have already seen his profile
in big western cities there's a constant rotation of 100s/1000s of new girls every day

Two things that may work:
1. Swapping lightly every few hours (rather than swipe spamming) to optimize your ELO. It seems the algorithm rewards those who do it casually. You let the girls do all the work, and then choose them in the Liked section if you have Premium.

2. Paying for boosts in the evening, around 8pm. Yeah, Tinder is greedy, but the ROI is still good.

I don't know how it works since I woudn't be surprised if Tinder/Bumble didn't recognize China (I forget if you even need a VPN) but the price is heavily location-dependent. Supposedly Turkey and India are the cheapest followed by most SEA countries like Vietnam and PH. Do tell what the prices are for you in China @Rance unless you're cooked by making your accounts in the US.
When I managed to get Vietnamese pricing (I'll definitely replicate this if it's weird about making your account with a Chinese phone number/IP) platinum was like $7/month and Bumble premium was $10/month. That's a trivial amount of money compared to what you might spend for dates, etc. over the course of an entire month - I don't care what anyone who refuses to pay a dime on dating apps thinks. Using these apps without being able to see your likes feels like being in a Skinner box

Did your number of incoming messages change at all after being located in the country, or get people nearby hit you up? Or still just totally random?
It's also presumably showing a Chinese flag next to your pfp now right? I'm not sure how it works

Made account in China for every platform, used Chinese phone number, etc. No VPN is required for any of the apps except Hinge. Hinge will ban you if you connect even once without VPN, it's just not usable.

All prices are in U.S. dollars and unreasonably high.
  • Tinder Gold is $20/WEEK, so over $80/month. There is a cheaper version called tinder+ but it just gives you unlimited likes, which is mostly useless
  • Tantan Premium is $23/month
  • Bumble Premium is $33/WEEK, but if you get it per month it's $16.33/week, which is about $70/month

Yes, messages went up quite a bit, and now the girls who are reaching out to me are far more often located nearby.

No, the flag represents native language, not nationality. HelloTalk chooses to use the U.S. flag to represent English, so it is coincidentally accurate for me

IDK, if there were a theoretically infinite number of girls then I would probably buy a subscription. But the way I see it, it's a finite resource, and the subscription just fast-tracks how quickly they match with me.

Yes, there are like 70 people who swiped right on me who are being hidden from me, but what's the value there? I will either eventually reach them through normal swiping, or I swiped left on them, in which case I do not want to speak with them anyway

you might miss girls outside of your age and location settings
but yeah you are right, if dating pool is small you are gonna end up swiping everyone within a few days
