the doctor determined that it's medically indicated so public insurance is gonna pay most of it.

i only have to pay 1,4k by myself, so i'm gonna jump on this opportunity. better late than never.

Some other patient cancelled their appointment so my surgery is already scheduled in less than a month.

Scary to think about that it's coming so soon. 🙈 I suppose this summer is going to be hell for me. @masonfrancis @Pained4ever

you had bimax too, right?

the doctor mentioned most people do it in winter because cooling the swelling is more comfortable then. not sure how relevant this really is. how was it for you?

also do you have any permanent numbness anywhere in your face?

Are you in braces? Doctors in countries with nationalized medicine tend to be less aggressive in their movements so make sure you're getting at least 15mm on the mandible. Are you getting genio too?
And sadly i have to get my entire joint replaced which will cause swelling for a year, but will have really good ccw results since they're less limited due to completely removing the joint. And i'm prob gonna have to pay at least 15k out of pocket because health insurance cuckoldry and the fact i'm going to the best surgeon in my state.

You'll ascend to an aryan mogger. Godspeed.

I would like to share a link from a .org post about the expected complications of bimax (it includes citations), but I don't know if I'm allowed to do it on this forum.

Are you in braces?
no, the orthodontist said it would be a bit overkill in my case because my bite is fine. and it would cost thousands, almost same price as having braces for years.

so far he only asked me if the functional aspect or the aesthetical change of the recessed jaw stands in the foreground for me. i said both and he said that helps him for the planning already. i assume it means something like you said but i'm gonna check with the doctor again 3 days before the surgery.

Are you getting genio too?
no, i think it's not really required for me and also it increases the risk of numbness.

removing the whole joint sounds brutal. are you gonna get genio?

he mentioned nothing about braces which makes me wonder if he's just getting a few mm. and only 1.4k out of pocket means he's for sure not getting genio
how are braces related to the mm?

Eh it is possible. Especially if he meant as opposed to invisalign. Metal braces have been getting phased out for a while.

Yes. And the more they advance you, the more adjustments they have to make to your bite. But it also just depends on the person. My teeth are straight and my bite is mostly fine, but i'm still having my teeth moved significantly, because the advancements are so big. Getting your total joint replaced is rarely necessary and is brutal, but does allow for movements, particularly counterclockwise rotation, that you can't really do otherwise. Mixing tjr with bsso has unreal benefits aesthetically, but my surgeon won't do it because insurance wont cover it. thankfully he's one of the best surgeons in the US so it's fine.

wow 15% risk of permanent hypoaesthesia above age 30 is brutal... but waiting any longer is just gonna increase the risk even further.

btw the medical part is mainly about my nasal breathing that has always been quite poor. i can only sleep well using nasal spray before sleep.

at some point i would probably develop sleep apnea like my recessed uncle who sleeps with a cucked CPAP mask every night:
