and jakarta is 4 cities in one. Depends where you stay, how it will suit you, you want clean, hardly any mosques. Go south. you know near the downtown area that looks like newyork times square.
you want less noise, go west, tangerang area. Or east, apartments in the keymayoran area. very spacious lots of trees. golf courses are there.
north, ya, its old, dirty, noisy, and sidewalks are unwalkable. but it's where all the bad girls are.

But what i love about indonesia. It's worse than thailand (if you know what i mean) but it's never in your face. So unless you explore or meet up with expats like me, you are never gonna know it. You can walk by bad ass clubs, and never know they were their. Its how they do it here. out of sight out of mind. remember it is after all a muslim country.
and if you find jakarta boring, it's because you want to be bored. There are a million things to do here. Not just malls, The clubs are off the chain (there is a website that shows you alot of them. let me know if you want it) . Or if you like doing nerdy things, like board games for example, there are groups and building catered around that (restaurants that host board game tables and always people wanting you to join). they have bowling, VR, arcades, shit......whatever you can think of. Infact, google whatever you want to do "________ jakarta". you will find it
But you are right the malls are MASSIVE here and crowded. Isn't that a good thing? Most people would think so.
