My first week post surgery was a true baptism of fire.
the swelling in my nose and lips in the first days prevented me from breathing properly during sleep. plus i had residuals from a cough that still caused some slime in the throat. so my body always did the emergency wake up when i fell asleep. i was basically awake for 4 days with only sleeping intervals of max. 15 mins at a time. didn't even know that's possible without going insane.
and then when i thought the worst was over, i hit rock bottom. in the night before supposedly leaving the hospital an after-bleeding in my nose started. i thought no big deal. but then the blood stopped running out of my nose and ran into the face. i felt how one side of my face started filling with blood within minutes, getting bigger and bigger like a ball. i called the nurse and he woke up the doctor on shift. i told him it's an emergency and we need to stop the blood from flowing into the face even more and get it out. he seemed really sleepy, did nothing and went back to sleep. that was the moment when i thought it's over.
well, turns out i survived. but since the doctor chose the "conservative approach" (= do nothing), the blood coagulated and developed a massive swelling, much bigger than the actual surgery swelling. even my eye got swollen like a boxer’s because the swelling grew so big. my ex-gf visited me in hospital and was shocked. she said i looked unbelievably ugly, like an orc. and she was right.
the worst is over now and i can already sleep better than before surgery because my sleep apnea seems to be cured. and yes, my jaw also looks better than before already despite the swelling.
