Only thing I ever did was give half a marang to a primary school age beggar in Davao after I realized they take like 7 hours to eat (if you’ve been there you probably know what area)

Whilst traveling outside Manila to a neighboring province, I witnessed similiar depressing shit as well as rotting dog corpses and worst of all a young guy that had been electrocuted to death and was being transported by the motor boat that was used to take people to and from the diving resort I was staying at with the girl I was with at the time.
He could not be resuscitated after medics got him off the boat as he apparently didn't wear proper gear when working on power lines of the roof of the resort.

While the Filipina was also affected by this, she got over it far quicker than I did.
Of course, this is every day life for them.
