Day 3 of China teachermaxxing job hunt

Interesting, I thought the air quality would have improved more in the last decade compared to most other northern cities since its also a coastal city. If I do go I'll be living there for at least a year so I guess that's something to keep in mind. I assume this was in the winter?

Also how were the chicks?
the direction of the wind plays a big role. if the winds comes from the sea it's perfectly fine but when it's coming from inland it takes all the smog from other regions. dunno about chicks i was just chilling there really. in my opinion i liked women from the southern part of china more than the north but i can't distinguish per city as i wasn't focused on it during my trip

I went last year and it was the only city out of 7/8 with shit AQI on my trip. So check the time of year in which it's best to go, I have less fond memories now cuz of the constant depression inducing smog hanging around all the time
And in the summer there’s a ton of mist from the ocean which is pretty aesthetic

share some details? i hope u got university
Not a uni but the hours are a little better than what you usually get although not as good as I previously was told now that I'm looking at the contract. I might have to do a night session once per week but otherwise actual work hours aren't too bad for a non uni job.
Only thing is I'm not being told is what my exact schedule would be so worst case I might have some long days with lots of breaks but they don't seem to be strict about being on the premises during those. It's only for 1 year so it's not the end of the world if it ends up sucking and I'd just move on to a better job since it's easier once you have exp and are already in China.

Now that I'm close to actually deciding I'm getting antsy and wondering if it is worth my while as my goal is to get a rich htb sugarmomma. I know a few people on old rvf from what i remember and even here have said that Qingdao has decent looking women including @marauder but I'm still not really seeing what they're saying via YouTube street videos. Again sure there are some, but its mostly ones with mtb and ltb faces. Qingdao is a city popular with domestic tourists tho so maybe it's the ones from rural Shandong and nearby provinces dragging down the average in the more touristic areas that typically get filmed?
Anyways i don't know how viable this will be even with my stats with this.

It's also now May so the clock is ticking and I may not get anything better since I'm being picky about specific cities. Otherwise i could just gamble on landing a decent uni gig in Beijing, Qingdao, Dalian, Tianjin, Chengdu or Hangzhou in the next couple of months.
I recognize the reality of probably getting locked down by a girl in whatever city I first end up in so I dont want to make a mistake in that regard.

oh damn you've already accepted an offer? still in my degree process prob wont finish till october
In your case, a lot of unis hire for march so you probably wont have to wait until 2027 fall.

Might be going to Qingdao this fall boys. Only potential negative is I dont see a large amount of htbs or higher there compared to other northern cities from what I can gather. Even in this 4 hour vid there aren't that many of them.

So yeah i think you might be right Exutoire that Shandong overall got hit by the ugly stick. Mostly everything else seems pretty good about the city for what I am looking for tho. Rich women are probably abundant, climate is nice and pace of life is seemigly more chill compared to most Tier1s.
Beijing looks like it’s better for what u want but qingdao seems nice and yeh if u have a good job offer then take since looks of women aren’t the only thing you want. but i watched a little of the vid u posted and it seems there are some busted chicks there vs Beijing so hopefully that’s not what they all look like lol and u can find someone. Never been so hopefully someone who has spent a lot of time there can comment

Don't want to go too much more into details but housing and salary are meh better than unis but a little lower than most full time non uni jobs. Overall pay is okay but I was also recently told that it's likely I won't have long days so that's another pro but wont have the actual schedule until later and its China so they could be lieing through their teeth.

would you mind dming?
At the same time kinda sucks that interest in China looks like it's topped and is entering a bear mkt on this forum. Many members are leaving or have already left right before I make my venture.
@Rance disappeared, @Exutoire left and @Orientalist is going to leave to Nam soon 🙁
fwiw i will go to china as soon as possible, even if i have to do some months in nam beforehand

Well the whole Western internet access issue is still up in the air but isn’t mainland China still the best place to teach or is that only true if you have limited credentials and experience?
Otherwise a more developed place like Japan actually offers better perks maybe?
I’m talking about like if you only have a Bachelor’s degree and a TEFL certificate of course lol

you wanna teach in some japanese village? have you been to japan?

You misread by question lol
That’s only true for Japan if you have basic credentials but I’m assuming if you have a Master’s degree or higher plus a teaching license then you can get really good jobs at international schools and universities outside of mainland China that still pay relatively high salaries while getting to enjoy a more Western or generally higher quality of life without the typical 3rd world problems to as much of an extent as is possible nowadays anyway lol

yh id do it if i was in t1 city in japan, like osaka, tokyo, maybe even sapporo even with the brutal winters, can potentially get PR in 1 year with enough qualifications

It's true whether you have credentials or not, uni lecturer jobs which you can get with even a bachelors although some prefer a masters, don't pay that well usually around 12k rmb or like 1800 usd a month at the time of this post but considering the local avg salaries and cost of living and the fact they are usually relaxed it's not a bad deal and you can save a little bit but it's not that great. That being said I don't think these types of positions even exist in Japan or other parts of Asia.

Then there are higher paying jobs at training centers or teaching at actual schools which can be broken down into 3 types: public schools private bilinguals and real intl schools, pay and work increase in that order but the pay while decreasing since covid its still better than in most other places. A lot of them want prev experience but because of the sheer number of schools some will compromise unlike in other countries.

Workload can be grueling at some of these schools and a few that I interviewed with already were talking about slavedriving me before I even interviewed lol. In general subject teaching is not exactly an easy job as I've found out through my student teaching practicum even if behavior isn't an issue and I got lucky with my placement at a good school where I am. I know its worse for new teachers but it can be hard at times and you feel like you often never have enough time. But teaching 25 periods or more is insane to me and I have no idea why anyone who wants even a little bit of a semblance of work life balance would do that, pay be damned.

So what you’re saying is that yes, mainland China is still the best in general for teaching at all levels, and its actually better to just take the easier ESL jobs at training centers, kindergartens, and universities because they pay about the same or almost the same as subject teaching with more serious credentials?
Then why did you pursue the Master’s degree and teaching license in the first place lol
Should’ve just taken a random ESL job ASAP with the credentials you already had…

There are some jobs where you can teach 20 periods or even lower and in those cases you would need a masters or experience and license that pay similiar to what other lower or even mid tier schools pay. Also I have seen unis that pay more in exchange for more hours that want you to have a masters and actually interviewed with one earlier this year. So I wouldn't say it's entirely useless to have credentials. Also if the VPN stuff is overblown amd more people come to China then a masters degree will become the norm as a requirement

That’s just my alternative. There’s nothing quite as cushy there as china uni jobs. I’d prob work at international schools and intermittently NEET every now and then but that would be a red flag on a resume plus just not as good

can't you just larp your neeting in between and put that you went back home to tutor english every now and then?

They really do all suck tbh…
This JBW stuff seems like a curse sometimes lol
they're really not that bad it's just that a lot of them dont go out in makeup while white foids put a pound of it on their faces in public and before any photo going on social media. half in the picture are average and the other half is below
