What is interesting about the history of Jews is that they were a backwater culture that only came to prominence after Carthage and Phoenicia were destroyed by Rome. There's a theory that there was a mass conversion by Phoenicians to Judaism which would explain the expansion of the religion all over the Roman world fairly rapidly during antiquity and why an unimpressive backwater civilization would suddenly have large numbers of accomplished merchants and intellectuals. It would also put water on the idea that the Jewish religion has some kind of special significance or connection with God if God exists.

The Greeks and Romans accused the Carthaginians of ritual child sacrifice, an accusation which was backed up with some recently discovered archaeological evidence. Judaism as a religion has many obscure ancient traditions, and there is a theory that into the medieval period they continued to practice child sacrifice. This theory doesn't have a term, but the only modern term for the controversy is called "blood libel", which assumes the falsehood of the accusation despite it being a relatively common event in medieval history (A child going missing, or being found with their blood drained and this inciting a revolt of the goyim against their local Jewish community).

I haven't read these sources directly, but this is an interesting article that lays out these claims in much greater detail, and I think gives it at least a plausible chance, even if unlikely of being true.
