Why is coke so popular?

I never tried coke of course but a friend of mine tried it and he told me he did not feel much. It just felt a bit numb in his nose and mouth and he felt energetic as if he had too much coffee and wanted to talk a lot. Not comparable to the euphoria one feels when the alcohol hits the bloodstream.
Why is it so popular then?

his description is pretty accurate.

it causes some euphoria but not comparable to alcohol. the kick of alcohol is better, the side effects just suck too hard.

coke also has side effects though. for instance it can make you horny but can also cause erectile dysfunction which is a terrible combination.
