you can get a 140sqm 3 bedroom 2 bathroom high rise apartment that faces the sunset in any city other than shanghai and beijing for $500

and it’s easy af to date

so why not?

Crazy internet makes it hard for me to make zoom calls for my work and don’t think I can get a long term visa like Thailand where I am applying for DTV next week

1000mbps internet for $10 a month + vpn

and yea i guess the visa thing is an issue for most people

I had a friend tell me the VPN speed is crazy variable and cuts out a lot, I’m gonna try and go their short term one day and try and work it out though

what do you do? are you employed or freelancer?

Yes one of my female students showed me her apartment in Shanghai. Broke down cost of living for me.

She studied in Edinburgh and we're comparing cost of living there with UK.

Freelance video editor / content agency stuff, have clients under both (I make like 3-4K a month, still a brokie)
where do you find clients? i want to get the DTV too but my remote employee job won't let me leave for more than 90 days at a time.

lots of people have made guides on how to fake it, just do that

i get everyone needs their thailand arc but surely it’s overplayed by now! (it’s not)

let’s go civil war max in myanmar!

Lived there for a year. It's the every day living for me. Just too many damn people, the spitting, lack of manners sometimes, internet as you know it doesn't exist, and just that you feel like sooo much like an outsider as a westerner. It wears down on you. If you are going to live there for the girls, you better be getting the Stacey-lites to make it worth it. And stacey-lites and higher are very rare anyways. Land of easy light-skinned 5s. No Thanks. Not worth it long term when considering everything.

i guess people are different

i prefer being the only one of my kind in the area

it feels more special when i see another american

not that i would talk to them

thailand drains me more than china with the europeans and americans on every corner compared to not seeing any in china

-internet sucks, you need VPN for anything western and chinese apps for everything else
-visas are hard to get
-low levels of english and no expat community
-the average chinese girl isn't as easy as other countries

you need to be a very specific kind of person to like china longterm
at the end of the day there's no big reason to be there for most unless you really like chinese culture + girls
i can't imagine many people wanting to build a life there

most people pretend they like adventure but in the end they like everything to be easy and have other expats around
see all the nomads staying in the same neighborhoods, cafes, restaurants in the same 10-15 cities

All pros
VPN is literally an app on your phone, you can get literal 10 year visa as an American despite being their political enemy, and the last 2 ensures no sexpats. Stop the cope

I used to love china. in recent years taiwan feels better to me overall. taiwan I get maybe 20 or so likes a day on tinder. chinese apps are populated by bots and as far as I can see fewer people use them than in the past. several people accused me of being an AI. they also work a lot and its hard to get them out. I think most chinese would probably just rather not have sex.

alex advised me to approach more, that would probably solve about half of my problems. but one of the big appeals of parts of asia is just being able to get them to come to you. that seems to be dead in china.\

I'm gonna make the rounds and probably eventually come back to china. the world changes fast. but at the moment its not my preferred place.

mostly true except the first point. internet is not slow at all lol

and people make a big deal with muh vpns for work purposes but honestly your work website prob doesn’t even require a vpn to access. just email would

Hey guys I'm probably gonna be moving to China for work to teach a stem subject once I get my license so I'll be trying to do this.

Wasn't originally my plan to become a teacher and it's certainly not my first choice of a career but the tech field is shit for the foreseeable future and I dont even like most tech jobs save data analysis anyways. Anyways fed up with living in the US with all of its current drawbacks so gonna make the plunge.

I previously visited the Tier 1s pre covid and did get with a girl there beforehand but will be trying to a job in the Tier 2s so I can date 7+ girls.
