Stats & Background
Spanish, 1.81m (5'11"), average looks. Decided to take a short trip to Romania (mostly family-oriented) but wanted to get a feel for the dating dynamics and see if it’s worth coming back longer-term.
Trip Details
Traveled in late March, spent 4 days mostly in Bucharest. I wasn’t there purely to game, but I did go out at night and paid attention to how locals behave, who speaks English, and how approachable girls are.
Bucharest Observations
Gender Ratio:
Surprisingly decent — felt like 50/50 male-to-female among young people in bars and clubs. In my hometown, it’s more like 65/35 with dudes flooding the scene. This was refreshing.
Female Appearance:
Most women were noticeable shorter than me. Hair was usually dark brown to black. Skin tone often had a slight tan.
Approach Attempt:
Spoke to a blonde at the bar while ordering a drink. She didn’t reject me, but she wasn’t showing interest either — she barely spoke English, so I backed off quickly. No hard rejection, but no spark either.
Male Competition:
Most guys seemed average-looking — barely any visibly “high-tier” men. That said, I didn’t feel like I stood out at all. If anything, I felt a bit “invisible” since I couldn’t communicate. Girls didn’t seem curious or intrigued by a foreigner who can’t speak the language.
Language Barrier = Huge Problem
I tried chatting with a group of guys just to feel the vibe — none spoke English. Same with most people. If you don’t speak Romanian, you’re pretty much on your own socially.
Final Thoughts
I liked the nightlife of Bucharest — good gender balance, cool vibes — but I wouldn’t recommend it for short-term dating success unless:
You speak Romanian
You’re significantly above average in looks/status
You already have social connections
Questions
1. Has anyone had success in smaller Romanian cities (e.g., Iași, Sibiu, Timișoara, Cluj) where foreigners are more rare?
2. Is staying long-term and learning Romanian a real game-changer for the average guy?
3. Would a guy like me do better in other Eastern European countries like Bulgaria, Ukraine, or Moldova?
