From some posts on Reddit: “Thailand has one of the highest risk to get infected with parasites on planet Earth. As a previous parasite owner, and a person who is working in this industry, I can guarantee up to 20% travellers return back home with some parasites. Not every species of worms are dangerous but some fact:
- over 10% locals infected with Opistorchiasis – liver fluke that is a principal reason of bile dust cancer. You can get it while eating fish (raw or restaurant cooked) or by eating in the restaurant where the fish or seafood is served. Flukes leaves in your bile dust for up to 25 years, symptomless. In most cases you have average skin issues or immune reaction, probably doctor will say "autoimmune disorder" but the real issue will be in flukes.
- Between 30-40% population is infected with soil transmitted hemlemnts, not all of them are dangerous, but for instance trichura whipworm is a typical reason of apendicide surgery and ascarisis can cause overall digestion issues
- There are other parasites illnesses like maleria, schistosomiasis, fasciolla etc.
The big issue, why it is not popular to talk about it, that parasite testing is broken. There is only one type of test which is good – stool qPCR molecular test with DNA analysis. It is expensive but has 90%+ sensitivity to most gut parasites.
Microscope analysis is crap, its sensitivity is poor, some species like hookworms can be found only in 18 / 100 infected patients.
Blood tests are useful after 2 weeks and no later than 6 months of receiving infections. Because antibodies doesn't last forever.
If you are in Thailand or was there last 10 years, and you have skin issues, digestion issues, fatigue, I would strongly recommend find a clinic, that makes a high quality qPCR test.”
“My wife was Thai and died from bile duct cancer 5 months after being diagnosed. She grew up in NE Thailand (Issan) and came to live in the US as an adult. I have seen flatworms in the water in her village when bathing and brushing my teeth. They’re very small so you can imagine how they’d easily enter the body. Obviously they ingest them through their food sources. Lots of fermented raw freshwater fish, freshwater snails etc. Food that I for the most part avoided. After she died I returned to Thailand to teach and a couple years later found myself having recurring digestive health issues
I live here and have to deworm myself at least once a year, but I’m on a mostly underdeveloped island. I also do dumb shit like eat live squid. I’m an adventurous foodie.
I’m sorry her doctors were dismissive at first. That happens a lot to women all over the world. I’m glad she found the answer. I can’t believe that many doctors knew this happened when she got back from Thailand and didn’t immediately put two and two together.
Main areas are Southeastern Asia and Siberia. Thailand and Novosibirsk are two locations of main research. The source of infection – fish located in riveres in that regions.
In light of this, I urge you to be vigilant when consuming fish or seafood and to seek medical advice if you experience unexplained dermatitis or other symptoms consistent with Opisthorchiasis. Together, we can raise awareness and prevent this insidious parasite from causing further harm.
As someone who has endured the suffering caused by tropical parasites, I am more than willing to answer any questions about parasites, their different species, and the challenges they pose to our health. Please feel free to reach out, and let's support one another in raising awareness and combating these silent threats.”
And this is the just the tip of the iceberg. There are other risks for food poisoning including parasites, worms and pathogens. If you think to eat at restaurants, there is no guarantee the food will be cooked in a proper/clean/sterile way. Not to mention a potential for gutter oil recycling from sewage or trash (but more common in China and Taiwan).
Moreover air pollution, dirty tap water or dirty pipes that carry them, brb boil water everytime to avoid bacteria exposure. Higher than average stds rates including antibiotics resistant stds, mosquitoes and bugs that carry malaria and typhus. Dogs with rabies. Hot humid shitty weather. Tranny posing as girls with fake vaginas.
Why do you think SEA/Thailand is so cheap? There is a hidden price to pay with your health on top of what you pay for expenses. And Thailand is not even good for LTR - If you try, good luck with facing lots of western chadlites competition - post covid the dating game become much harder. So all these risks to fuck some third world country jungle gooks whores?
