Them not liking tan is part of it but I think it's mostly about sun damage. Asian skin is super prone to sun damage and they get these big brown splotches, dark freckles, and discoloration that looks terrible. They hate it and spend thousands of dollars at korean clinics to get rid of it.

white people get those too, they are called age spots.
i remember when i was in the philippines and some locals there had apparently only met old white guys before. they said about me "amazing, he is white but he doesn't have any brown spots in his face".
I noticed that some Asians also look orange, or like a buff type color, which I guess is a mix of yellow and tan/brown.
Why do Asians have such immense skin tone variation anyway?
