I very much looked forward to this trip, yet it seems that Shanghai isn't a geomaxxing location in 2025. We've already heard from several members that it's not an easy city but I wanted to see it myself.

Despite taking the busiest subway lines every day (1, 2, 8) and visiting the most famous places, I don't recall even one girl looking at me. Some scammers on East Nanjing Road offered to have some "tea" or "drinks" but it obviously doesn't count.

Interestingly enough, some guys stared at me from the moment I arrived at the airport, which I assume was due to my height. I had a girlfriend from the Shanghai region in the past, so I expected something different from this experience.

I went somewhere else and enjoy my time there.

60 likes in half a day means there is huge potential.

i get like 1 bumble like a day in germany in winter... but that being said, at least the conversation is a lot better than in china. if you manage to get likes in europe, chances for a date are reasonably high. in china they often don't speak any english and don't reply.

JBW basically means it should require little effort to be successful. I’m happy to dedicate some time to it if required, but not in a city where I feel invisible. I should try another Chinese city in the future as I like the vibe in the country, but SH became too westernized.

I live in Shanghai, and the places you mentioned aren’t ideal to meet girls. These places are just tourist traps filled with out of town Chinese tourists. The bund has some rooftop hotels bar/clubs, but these parties usually have many foreigners, so again there’s no JBW boost at all.

Anyway there’s plenty of foreigners in Shanghai, including models, so people are accustomed to them and there really isn’t much of JBW halo here. The level at which JBW works basically is ltb/mtb girls, which is what 90% of foreigners are dating. But for the actual high level girls, other factors will come in to play such as mogger looks, money, status , elite education etc.

But still your results on bumble were decent, so you easily could have converted some of those matches into lays. The girls here on dating apps can be pretty high quality, and they are more eager and available to meet off dating apps compared to say Tokyo, where the quality of girls on apps is lower than irl. Basically if you can put in more time here, you should be able to get a good number of slays and fwbs. And of course the quality of girls in Shanghai is the highest in China overall, because there’s girls from all provinces of China here, as it’s the most attractive city for Chinese to live in.

Good take on JBW. Don't mean to hijack this thread away from China but there was a time "exotic factor" supposedly worked in CE/EE. This was from the early 2010s when RooshV traveled there. When I came around to CE/EE, I've come to learn that this exotic factor applied to LTBs and MTBs at best. For the HTNs and up, you gotta have your shit together even back then.

I don't know you personally but I think this feeling is mostly a meme. Everyone feels horrible when they're in a nightlife establishment where they don't fit in or know anyone. Especially large clubs. I was no different. Fact is when you frequent a place long enough you get to know the bartenders, regular customers, and just get a better feel for the venue. You become "at home" there and can use that confidence to your advantage. Just like a NEET feels at home in front of his computer in his mom's basement, that same feeling can be realized in any social venue. It doesn't require you to be particularly extroverted or normie.

Haha, your results are pretty good though, I’d say regular normies would get like 10-15 likes max a day. So if you stay for like a month or two, you will definitely have good success here, and the quality of girls here can be really high.
But yeah the JBW superstar treatment is not gonna happen here, I guess Philippines and Indonesia are the only places where that’s happening these days.

Sister is correct, no selfies.

No need to go crazy. Just have at least 5 or so decent photos on your Instagram. You don't have to be in all of them but you should be in at least one or two. Should primarily be photos of travel (nature + city), food, or animals.

Try to have at least 300 followers and keep your follower count higher than your following count (even if only slightly higher)

From that point you can just say that you use Instagram "low key" and mostly use it to message friends privately. Just say you're not a big social media guy. The "I'm not a social media guy" line doesn't work when you don't have social media... but with a few photos and a healthy amount of followers, it does work.
