PR's pricing is higher than most of the rest of LatAm. Cheapest bunk I can book in San Juan for early March costs $27...for a freakin' bunk bed, JFL. Compared to the absolute glut of hotel options in Southeast Asia, the few hotels in PR are basically all resort-style, with prices to match. My sister traveled with friends and rented an airbnb apartment, which made the trip relatively affordable. Check out this screenshot of downtown hotels in Ponce, one of the biggest cities in P.R. There's like six hotels and they are all over $100/night (1 USD : 4.7 MYR). Down on the coast there are four more hotels, also $100+ per night. You're gonna need a car to get around in P.R. as well, so renting one is a huge additional expense. PR is basically America without white people, JFL.
