When you do so, two things happen:
1. You show respect for the culture (which may or may not be important to you)
2. You make an effort and others will reciprocate (i.e., magically say some English words)
So if you're serious about geomaxxing, take 30 minutes of your time to learn the basics:
- Watashi was (name) desu
- Watashi wa (country) shusshindesu
- Anata wa totemo kawaidesu ne
- Eigo no menyuu ga arimasu ka?
- Nihongo ga wakarimasen
- Oishii
Bonus points: listen to the pronunciations on Google Translate
Of course, some dedicated geomaxxers like @Rance -dono will mog you to 猫の島 and back. But you will mog many others as well.
