Do you speak any polish? Would it be a halo or a falio to speak it ?

Im of the assumption that when it comes to western langauges like German or Italian being able to speak them certainly haloes you in the eyes of the natives and makes you look smart/educated.

But given that all the younger generation is somewhat fluent in english, learning unusual languages like polish might come across as very weird and non NT and give you away as desperate geomaxer.

I'm also of the impression that western wanna be countries like Poland are heavily obssesed with anglophone culture to the point that many younger people, girls specifically, take pride in their English knowledge and using English can halo any interaction on its own.

Also having them speak a language they're not native in puts them below you hierarchically, they'll be less confident, more docile and condescendig.

Being able to understand the language without letting them know can be useful though as you might hear stuff you weren't supposed to.

if you're a foreigner chatting up local women, many of them will figure out that you're a sexpat, regardless if you speak the local language or not. you can't avoid it. so speaking the local language you'll at least appear like a smart and cultured sexpat. being multilingual in general is an attractive high-class trait. I really don't see why it would be a bad thing.

this isn't a matter of East vs West. it's a matter of big vs small countries.
for example Russian culture is more insular, because the country has a lot of people, and therefore naturally produces more cultural content. China and India are even bigger and even more insular.
meanwhile a small country has to consume foreign media, simply because there isn't much local media.
Also I don't know where you got the idea that Western Europeans are bad at English. countries like Germany, the Nordics, the Benelux, Finland, Portugal are at the top of every English proficiency ranking.

To a certain extent you're right. East Asian and Romance languages and German are very NT. Depending on how you present yourself, learning something like Polish can easily be explained. Definitely never learn Thai, Tagalog or autistic ones like Dothraki
