New visa in China called the K visa built for geomaxing. Requirements are you must be be young and have a STEM degree. Not all the details are out so there might be specific schools or work experience required, we will find out in October. This visa is nice because you wont have to be in school or teaching English and instead frees up time for field research.

I've been trying to look into the requirements for this Visa and it's somewhat strange, apparently it's supposed to be for "young STEM graduates" but that's not what this says at all:

Who Qualifies for the K Visa?

Eligibility focuses on three core categories:

1. High-Level Researchers (高端研究人才, gāoduān yánjiū réncái)

  • Hold a PhD or equivalent in STEM fields.
  • Have published in top-tier journals (e.g., Nature, Science) or hold patents.
  • Invited by Chinese universities, research institutes, or national labs (e.g., Tsinghua University, CAS (中国科学院, Zhōngguó Kēxuéyuàn)).

2. Tech Entrepreneurs (科技创业者, kējì chuàngyèzhě)

  • Founders or C-level executives of startups in sectors like AI, biotech, or green energy.
  • Companies must be registered in China (e.g., in Shenzhen’s Qianhai Zone (前海片区, qiánhǎi piànqū) or Beijing’s Zhongguancun (中关村, Zhōngguāncūn)).
  • Secured funding from accredited investors or government grants.

3. Industry Specialists (行业技术专家, hángyè jìshù zhuānjiā)

  • Professionals with 5+ years of experience in tech firms (e.g., Huawei, BYD, or multinationals like Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory).
  • Skills aligned with China’s strategic industries (e.g., 5G, semiconductor manufacturing, new energy vehicles (NEV, 新能源汽车, xīnnéngyuán qìchē)).

Basically you can't have a bachelors and show up, you need to actually have significant experience and education (if you already met these requirements you shouldn't even have a problem finding a job in the chinese tech industry anyways).

Additionally:

Key Benefits of the K Visa

  1. Reduced Bureaucracy:
    • No need for repeated visa renewals; stays of up to 180 days per entry.
    • Exemption from work permit requirements for short-term projects (under 90 days).
You need to visa hop every six months, can't even stay for a year or whatever (JFL) and it mainly seems to be meant for short time consultation work, basically they want you to get in, hand over what your occupational knowledge and GTFO, though apparently this visa does help with permanent residency so there's that. Trying to get a scholarship for a masters over there would probably be more worthwhile imo.

I'm still not sure how reliable that article was so I'll have to check the chinese sources to make sure.
