just for the media and books if nothing else. i know it's always been a meme that people learn japanese to watch anime without subs or to read manga but looking at the state of entertainment on a worldwide scale it's pretty depressing what our options are

if you learn just one of chinese, japanese or korean you'll have a lot to work with. if you learn two, you'll never need to watch a horribly written hbo or netflix series again. with chinese you can just LDAR on social media which is an added benefit

if i had to pick one i would definitely just do chinese but adding japanese or korean would be solid. japan has a massive cinematic tradition and kdramas that arent written or directed by women are also good
