why would you even bother dealing with that if you have your own company and make enough money to be where you want?

how are programmers fucked over by ai? i haven't seen anyone get fired yet because of that. it's rather like chatgpt has become the sparring partner of every dev. ai can't develop fully functional software on its own yet.

changing remote job for remote job. i have own company because of taxes, i’m still wage monkey

i disagree, ai is developing ready to copy huge parts of projects for me, not chatgpt though

and us market was shit last 2 years, i’m asking if something changed

Which AI?

It’s still shit

got rejected from like 50 companies, but faang responded and im on second stage of their recruitment process
not gonna happen anyway they dont want white people with such salary there (with stocks and bonuses would be around 230k usd a year)

What would be the work schedule/routine for a high level Silicon Valley job like that?
Would you be able to go fully remote or hybrid at some point or when you choose to perhaps for part of the year and maybe in lieu of a vacation or would you be stuck in California the whole time, which besides the decent FOB Asian community, is still most certainly a massive Geomin location overall lol

im pretty sure they wouldn't let me work remotely outside of us, maybe even state (but idk how it works there)
its probably hybrid at best

My friend landed a job in California last year after about three months of grinding LeetCode and system design. Around the same time, I went through two interviews in Europe. I failed one, but got an offer from the other.

if you had to choose a carreer now, what would you go for?

probably not software development since you think it will be replaced by AI.

would you still pick cloud engineering?

or maybe something else that is high in demand like cyber security? machine learning? data monkey?

This tracks with what my friend experienced. The job market in tech has gotten tougher these days, but its still doable.
I did a search of job openings in various fields and tech or tech-adjacent still has a lot of openings.

Another friend got a blue collar job after quitting his history grad program. My neighbor works in healthcare.
I think the blue collar guy is happier than the healthcare guy. Just my observations though.

Yeah unfortunately the IT job market is cooked in 2025 for most positions in the US for the most part. While I do think AI is a bit overhyped it will still end up reducing the amount of jobs especially at the entry level.

Also considering that many companies are doing layoffs and lobbying for H1B jeet replacements things will probsbly only get worse for people starting from scratch trying to get into fields like SWE.

Honestly wish I'd picked a different path as I graduated in the tail end of covid and then floundered for a bit as I realized I kind of hate sitting in front of a desk coding for long periods of time and then the job mkt did a 180 shortly after when I tried to get into data analytics but it is what it is.

If you guys don't mind living in China and are okay with making a bit less money, would reccomend international teaching. The savings potential seems to be decent even with the lower salary compared to white collar jobs in the west. In all honesty I'd rather be a history teacher as that's one of my passions but STEM subjects are what's in demand.

Which STEM subject are you going to teach in China?

I mean you guys laygh but its 2025 and US dollar might collapse. Good luck... Any form of self employment literally makes more money. Hence ur either poor and desperate, or you are just lazy/uncreative or both.

Its not 1960, its 2025. You have a unlimited library at your fingertips with a librarian (AI) that can easily read and explain any topic to you like a toddler.

Financial future of usa is in question. Money seamlessly and instantly flies around the world digitally. Just today alone, hundreds of billions of dollars flew around/changed hands, and ur telling me you cant figure out how to capture like 0.000001% of that?

Muh $100,000/year after 5 years in college. Just admit it, you are fucking lazy.

Who even knows the real debasement rate of the dollar? It literally feels like the new 100k is 500k. Im not even joking. Muh "2.5% inflation" 💀.

Yes because the year to year comparison of american groceries really clues you into the global debasement of a currency (CPI 🤡). /s

You will likely not ascend in this timeline through a "job" and investing in muh stockmarket. This generation the autodidacts and creative people who are willing to take risks will win.

This is easier said than done it is not feasible for most people to become an enterpreneur let alone a successful one making more than 100k a year. I disagree with the claim that any self employment makes more money than a regular job, if that were the case everyone would be doing it now. Even if it were possible, the market would shift to a state where it would no longer be viable. Of course in this scenario the economy would collapse as you need employees and not just employers.

Imo one is better off trying to get the highest salary they can get with a degree and skill that is in demand and then eventually try to turn it into a business on the side and if it fails you still have your career as a backup. Meanwhile you should be stacking paper and buy btc and maybe eth and if you are comfortable with more risk a few other "blue chips" in the top 20 and trade the 4 year cycles and try to achieve a few million usd after a few of them. Not financial advice of course. This is likely more than enough to live in SEA countries for the foreseeable future.

They are doing it. Digital nomad rates are skyrocketing and so is self employment in gen z. The average person will get fucked this generation, in fact they already are.... Theres no recocmendation. Its be exceptional or get fucked.
