china is already harder compared to 8 years ago. I was there off and on when they started getting their own apps, before which vpn use was mandatory to use most apps and chinad idnt have their own. I think its social media more than travelers.
what they do is they see white people in movies or instagram or douyin and they compare you to him. they're not comparing you to some skinnyfat backpacker. for what its worth they're also dating locals less than they used to. theyre not dating locals less because of tourists. they're comparing locals to western chads on insta. chads only go to da nang and thailand because its cheap, they go in groups often, and they take photos at famous places to boost their insta and get stacies back home, and then maybe also get a stacy thai or two (or part timer, or completely fucked up looking thai girl as we have seen in the memes.) they get none of this from going to china. as an example, taiwan is also a lot harder than it used to be even in the fucking countryside where it is actually poorer than most of china. its not harder because of money (they're poorer than china) or tourists. its because of exposure to social media.
I dont know if this info helps anyone. sure, danang was ruined by tourism specifically, but there are surprisingly many places to go in vietnam. da nang isnt even necessarily the best beach. you would only go there if you wanted hookers or wanted a convenient overpriced condo next to street food vendors that spoke english, which doesnt sound like the thing most people here want
