imo to avoid this either arrive late yourself OR do something in the meantime, kinda like to show that you ARE busy, for instance chat with a waiter/bartender nearby, engage in some conversation with someone who is also waiting, go for a walk etc, but show that you is not gonna sit down like a good boy wait for him
