For the past few days my passport has been off in some drawer somewhere, waiting for approval. Didn't know whether there'd be an issue with approving my visa. I have some strange job history, and maybe I made an error on the form...

For the past few days I've been waiting for STD test results. Full urine/blood panel. I've had sex with about 35-40 women, with virtually no condom use, and never had a blood test. I was sure something would come up positive on the test.

Well, now it's today

I got two notifications: my passport is arriving for signature, and my STD test results have arrived.

Rip open the FedEx box. Shiny new China visa. Beautiful.

Open STD test results email... long pdf... results all negative. Even HSV1/HSV2. That's right, not only do I not have syphilis, I don't even have herpes. Honestly dumbfounded how that's even possible, since I know people who had sex with like 3 women and have herpes.

Rance has been blessed by the gods of sex! The runway's clear and the marshallers are signaling! China awaits!

How long did everything take after you sent all the docs to your school?
Also are you fucked if you did have herpes?

Better stop living that lifestyle before you wind up with aids. It's like playing Russian roulette. Don't fuck without a condom when you're not in a relationship with the girl. You don't want to be spending the rest of your life visiting clinics.

Obviously
That one dude you were thinking of when you wrote that who you knew 20 years ago left out some crucial details about his trip to SEA

Herpes is not transmissible if you don't have an active outbreak. And many people don't ever get outbreaks. Honestly, I am shocked that I have neither genital herpes nor oral herpes (cold sores). With the number of people I've kissed it's statistically impossible. My immune system must be incompatible with herpes for some reason.

No, of course China does not test for herpes. They test for HIV and syphilis, and maybe hepatitis (A?) but I've heard conflicting reports on that.

HIV is stupidly difficult to contract. It's less like Russian roulette and more like playing "let's get struck by lighting" by sitting on your front porch. If you fuck girls in the ass without a condom, it becomes more like "let's get struck by lighting" while holding an umbrella over your head, but still, rare.

Refer to the below table. Note that these rates are assuming you're having sex with an HIV-positive person. Multiply the probabilities by the probability that your partner has HIV, and they are astoundingly low.

A friend of mine's relative caught HIV about 8 months back. Young Chinese kid from around Shanghai. He joined just joined the navy and his friends took him to a brothel where he raw dogged a hooker. It was his first time ever having sex and he got HIV. So his life is pretty much over.

is it really over though? cant you just take a monthly shot and live a normal life?

Damn brutal, I would rope

He's Chinese, living in China, and like 20 years old. His navy career is over and the only woman he'll ever be able to marry now would be a deaf one eyed ex prostitute that he found at her job sweeping the street.

He could go abroad maybe. But still who wants to be visiting clinics like that for the rest of their lives? Who wants to walk around knowing everyday that if one day the apocalypse ever does happen they'll never be able to live beyond around eight years after it?

are you still in japan right now? btw are you on prep?
Not in Japan anymore, going to China

I'm not on prep and don't plan to be, I'm pretty confident that I won't contract HIV. I probably would if I was going on a hooker spree or something especially somewhere like SEA

any reason ur not just perma on prep to be safe? i havent looked into the downsides too much but ive been on it for a few months in the past.

also played sengoku rance recently, kino game, was brutal to beat it

I had this moment a while back. I would toast you if I could. I would caution you to not expect to replicate this feat anywhere except for japan and korea

why did you decide on china if you had a good thing going on in japan?

When are you going to do that write up on the whole “getting a teaching job in China” process, especially detailing all of the bureaucratic stuff you have to do with the documents and whatnot?

Aren’t Japan and Korea the hardest on average to do this kind of thing in?
I don’t understand your reasoning lol

Just haven't really thought about it much due to the low risk. Same reason I don't have a dashcam on my car. Probably a good idea but just haven't gotten around to it.

My job sucked in Japan and I didn't see a path for better opportunity. Also, I can't see myself living in Asia for more than a few years due to family obligations I won't get into. Therefore, I figured Chinese has a lot more reverse geomaxxing potential than Japanese. There is no use for Japanese in the U.S. whatsoever.

In a few weeks once I get settled in

The Z-visa/work permit process for the curious:
  • After all documents are submitted, HR submits your file to the provincial bureau. Takes ~5 days for the pre-approval, and ~10 days for issuance of your work permit notification letter to be issued to you.
  • Schedule an appointment (or just walk in, depending on your location) at the CVASC to get the Z-visa stamped in your passport. At least for the one near me, they have 2-day processing so that's cool. Up to 5 days if not.
  • After actually arriving in the country, you still need to go on a few sidequests to legally start working. First get a mandatory medical exam. Takes 1-5 days. I don't know if you're able to pay for anything faster to get the results same-day or if it's just luck or whatever. They do a whole gamut of things on you though like X-rays and everything. And make sure it's the standard exam, not some generic check-up. Some employers apparently even want you to do one before arriving in the country, but I think that might just be excessive and you'll have to do the 2nd one in China anyways
  • After you give the results to HR showing you don't have AIDS or bone cancer, they can press 'activate' for your work permit application; it'll now be set to 'pending'. SAFEA approval takes up to 10 days at most, but usually 3-5 days. You'll now have your work permit QR code on the 电子社保卡 app
  • After you have your work permit you can apply for the Work-type Residence Permit (工作类居留许可). Pretty sure your school often makes the appointment at the public security bureau for you, but you could also do it yourself. You need a bunch of shit but nothing that takes extra processing time besides the aforementioned. Takes up to 15 days, but usually 5-7.
    • JW-201 form you fill out at the counter
    • Passport (+ possibly a photocopy of the photo page)
    • Temporary residence registration slip/accomodation proof. If your hotel is "licensed to accomodate foreigners" they can give this to you
    • 33x48mm photo
    • Medical exam certificate (+ copy)
    • A printout of your E-work permit QR page
    • Employer will give you printed copies of:
      • Employer cover letter
      • Labor contract copy; signed and stamped
      • Business license copy
  • You'll get a blue receipt while you wait for the processing and your passport is surrendered - sometimes employers can kind of treat this receipt as an "eh, alright, I guess you could start working now since the deal is basically sealed" but it's still not a legal work permit or anything like that. But after they're done processing you'll have the sticker in your passport - only then can you actually start legally working.
  • But also! In some cities, apparently you can apply for the work permit application and the work-type residence permit simultaneously at the same location, and it only takes up to around a week. Certain halls in Shanghai (Pudong), Beijing, Shenzhen (Qianhai), and Guangzhou (Huangpu & Nansha). That could save you up to like 18 days or something worst case scenario
So yeah it's a range of like 26~47 days. Arrive in the country by early August and you don't have anything to worry about really
