In 1996, Cheung Tze-keung, a notorious Hong Kong gangster known as "Big Spender," kidnapped Victor Li, the son of Asia's richest man, Li Ka-shing.

Cheung demanded a ransom of HK$2 billion (around $250 million USD), but Li Ka-shing negotiated and paid HK$1 billion (about $128 million USD) to secure his son's release.

Cheung personally collected the ransom from Li's home.

Cheung later contacted Li Ka-shing again, not for another crime but to ask for advice on how to invest the ransom money.

Li advised him to "turn over a new leaf" and live a good life with the money he had taken.

Despite this advice, Cheung continued his criminal activities and was eventually arrested in mainland China.

He was convicted of multiple crimes, including kidnapping and arms smuggling, and was executed by firing squad in 1998.
