to cut to the chase, they used to have this superstition that whenever travelers would come to their city and need a place to rest, the men would leave and let them stay in their house free to do whatever they want with their wives and daughters, as it brought good luck

the emperor found out about this and told them to stop this cuckoldry, but a famine happened in the city so the men begged to allow for this tradition to continue, which the emperor obliged

no idea if it still goes on. highly doubt it but funny story anyways
