what would u think? bangkok and kuala lumpur are great, from kl you can even go maldives for 100 usd, also a lot of cheap sea flights because its home of airasia
but maybe you know something closer to east asia?

If you're really intending on flying around the entirety of East Asia and SEA then Taipei could be a good choice. It's basically right in the middle of everything and Taoyuan is a great airport. Realistically the foremost consideration should be visa laws, for which Taiwan is also very forgiving.

If you're thinking less of a "nexus" for travel and more of a "base" where you'll spend a lot of time, then yeah SEA would be the move

how cheap do you need it to be?

for absolute cheapest indonesia and vietnam, maybe cambodia/laos (but dont know how many flights they got)
somewhat cheap thailand and malaysia
