after the disappointment by Da Nang i booked a flight to leave vietnam. i probably shouldn't have rushed that much and just stayed in HCMC for a bit again because i know that's better, but now it is what it is.

i just arrived in jakarta and the change is quite the cultural shock.

it's super difficult to just walk the city, apparently not intended by the creators. i was walking around quite long just trying to find an atm and some food and it was just annoying and took forever.

they don't have the street food culture at all here. all the so called street food i saw was disgusting junk smouldering in the sun, sold by a tiny stand immediately next to busy main roads. like centimeters away from the cars.

proper food is just inside some malls or whatever skyscraper shit with annoying security check.

again no coke zero available in the restaurant (no wonder people get fat).

hotels cost twice as much for the same standard as in da nang.

i'm drowning in likes on dating apps but most of them are chubby pancake faces with towels wrapped around.

i hope will find some love for the city in the coming days.

there are some positive sides as well though like the immigration was way faster and much more efficient than in vietnam. also finally i don't have to listen to non-stop honking traffic anymore. vietnamese are really retarded in some regards.

from the very little research ive done it's one of the biggest cities in the world, and the experience you will have depends a lot on the area

a bit like in manila, where you can find a few good areas with malls, walkability and easy life, but most of the city you wouldn't want to explore because it lacks infra and entertainment

Just spotted some small street food area with tiny Restaurants near my place.

I asked for the menu, they guy didn't understand me despite me gesturing. His colleagues grasped what i meant and gave a menu to me. Insects were crawling on it. i couldn't understand a word.

No fridge visible. Food rotting in the sun with flies on it.

I didn't dare to try it just after my stomach recovered from the vietnamese street food.

Paid european prices for pizza instead. @biggunsar where to eat? Better just order?

Kinda pointless to live in the center and go by taxi. I think i'll take a grab bike instead next time.

I've started to become more sympathetic to how true this probably is after learning a bit about other muslim societies. Being muslim doesn't immediately imply they're strict about it - in fucking Iran only like 30% of them are even religious these days despite calling themselves "muslim" and living in an islamic state.
I noticed a lot more headscarves in Malaysia. Always wondered if you even bothered with them in Indonesia and how common they are

"beer garden" is supposed to be among the cheaper ones (it was nothing like you would imagine a beer garden at all though). we ordered one pizza that we shared, 1 small and 2 regular beers and i paid around 23€. that's around what i'd pay in germany as well.

i can see now why you choose to pay women here instead. not my cup tea, but it makes sense financially. you will probably pay the same as for a date without the logistical issues and dating bullshit.

PS, jaakrta south is expensive. Jakarta north is fucking cheap (it's why i live here, cause im an internal jew with my money) east and wsst are equally cheap (and what your paying for in jakarta is considered expensive, once you leave the city)

PS to get around DO NOT use bluebird cabs. 2x's as expensive. Download grab app. (if it doesnt allow you due to region, google grab app apk if you have android)
and take a taxi that way, basically less than 7 dollars to anywhere. Usually about 2 or 3 dollars. ITs' so cheap my credit card kept blocking the grab app, cause my card company thought it was skimming.
so i use cash only now. (indonesian cash)

and if your going to use a bank machine, try to find an HSBC (they will give 3 mil to 15mil) depending on machine. For same price to take out of atm

all the other bank machines like mandiri and bca are niggers and will give only 2 mil at most and charge more. Some are super nigger tier and only spit out 1 mil, making you pay a take out fee for each mil)

grab app is cheap for food, and it's not street food. If you want street food, there are better places, like up north where i live. IF you like street food, look for a gaggle of them all in a row. Not the single two or 3 vendors. The large group of food stalls means more customrs more competition so they will use fridges and have cleaner food.
But with Grab you can order COD. pay cash, but there is a limit. usually 150k rupiah, cause that is alot of money for those drivers

quality of life, all depends on what you do. I am a home body. So the only thing i look for is availability for shit i want. I want a blender.....how hard is it to find kinda dealio

i find now that i use shopee the main app in indo, its' great! But if you had to find it without speaking very good indonesian. Hope you have an indo friend that speaks english or you like to go on adventures for a few hours

luckly the grab app and taxi's are fucking cheap. So cheap i cannot use my credit card cause my card keeps blocked the transactions cause 2 dollars here 3 dollars there all day. They think someone is skimming my card. Even after DOZENS of calls saying "FUCK OFF AND STOP BLOCKING MY CARDS YOU ASSHOLES THESE ARE LEGIT TRANSACTIONS BY THIS COMPANY" doens't matter. within 3 days BLOCKED.
